Rare issue.
One of the most recognizable gold coins of the Russian Empire from the reign of Nicholas I. Struck between 1826 and 1831, the 5 Roubles of this type feature the distinctive double-headed imperial eagle with lowered wings on the obverse and the inscription on the reverse stating the coin's fine gold content: "Чистаго золота 1 золотник 39 долей" ("Pure Gold – 1 Zolotnik 39 Dolyas"), equivalent to approximately 6 grams of fine gold.
The coin was struck at the St. Petersburg Mint, as indicated by the mintmark СПБ, while the initials ПД refer to the mintmaster Pavel Danilov, who held the office during this period.
