The rarest Gdańsk three-grosz coin of King Sigismund.
Historically, the first three-grosz coin minted in this city.
A trojak that has been hard to find for years. As early as 1890, Count Tyszkiewicz valued it significantly higher than other issues—at 30 marks, while the others were valued several times less (between 8 marks and as little as 1.2 marks!). It remains extremely rare even today. This is only the second piece in our company’s history. The first, from the Zbichorski collection, was sold for 22,200 zlotys.
It is sought after not only because it is Gdańsk’s first trojak, but also because of the portrait style. The bust style appears only in 1535 and early 1536.
A variant featuring the title “SIGIS P” (from “PRIMUS”—first) instead of a Roman numeral, with a legend ending in “PRVSS.”
The coin comes from an outstanding contemporary collection at Zbiór.com and is illustrated on their website.
