Biography
Graphic artist, illustrator, and comic book artist. Together with Grzegorz Rosiński, he attended the High School of Fine Arts in Warsaw, though he did not graduate. In 1959, he made his debut as a cartoonist in the newspaper *Korespondent Wszędobylski*, where he published the short comic *Wyprawa via kosmos* (*Journey Through Space*), followed by *Słoneczny rejs Przygody* (*Sunny Cruise Adventures*). Thanks to Rosiński’s recommendation, he began working with the “Sport i Turystyka” publishing house, for which he created several issues of the series about the adventures of Captain Żbik starting in 1971. When the first issue of the comic magazine *Relax* was published in 1976, Polch published a science fiction novella titled *Spotkanie* there. A turning point in his career was the series *Gods from Space*, produced for the German publisher Bastei/Econ Verlag, published between 1978 and 1983, and released in Poland starting in 1982. It was translated into many languages and solidified Polch’s artistic style, based on distinct outlines and realistic depictions of characters and objects. In 1982, he also published the first installment of the *Funky Koval* series in the magazine *Fantastyka*, which was later compiled into a four-volume album. In the 1990s, he illustrated Andrzej Sapkowski’s short stories from The Witcher series—between 1993 and 1995, he published six comic book volumes of The Witcher series in the magazine *Komiks*. In 2009, he was awarded the Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture—Gloria Artis.
