Biography
Polish painter from Sosnowiec is considered a representative of the Surrealist and Classicist trend. He was a member of the "Formists" group, one of the two original Polish avant-garde formations. He began his artistic studies at the Warsaw Drawing Class, and continued at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Leon Wyczółkowski, Józef Mehoffer and Florian Cynk. In 1913 he went to France on a scholarship but due to ill health he often returned to Zakopane and Poronin. He was also involved in illustrating books, magazines and textbooks, and in 1923 the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts was held in Monza, where Mierzejewski showed newly designed children's toys and Christmas tree ornaments. In 1925 he died prematurely of tuberculosis.
