Victor Vasarely (Pécs 1906 – Paris 1997) – a French painter and printmaker of Hungarian descent. A representative of geometric abstraction; in Paris from 1930; he gradually introduced the concept of movement into his works, moving toward kinetic art. He created compositions of dynamic forms suggesting movement and space; beginning in 1955, he produced series of “optical-kinetic” paintings that gave the impression of pulsating, undulating, swirling, or flickering. He is considered the founder of Op Art.
