The author of the porcelain sculpture depicting the famous Prancing Horse Ferrari is Giuseppe Tagliariol from Treviso, in art Bepi Tay (1915-1991).A pupil of Giorgio de Chirico and a sculptor by training, Tay is best known for his activity as a ceramist, which began in the second half of the 1950s at the Cacciapuoti factory in Naples. In 1960, he set up his own business by founding Tay, a ceramics factory in Monza, specialising in the production of animals, both in ceramic and porcelain. An extrovert man, a skilful weaver of important relationships, Tagliariol was also able to sustain the international success of his animalier ceramics through promotional initiatives of considerable media impact. One of the most successful of these was, in the 1970s, the limited series production of the Prancing Horse, one of the few examples of which is being presented at auction in perfect condition. The first copy of the sculpture was donated by Tagliariol to Cavalier Ferrari. The successful promotional operation was repeated in the 1980s with the creation of peace doves for Pope Woytila and an imposing eagle donated to President Reagan.
