One from a unique series of satirical “anti-speculation” medals.
It commemorates the high prices Warsaw faced toward the end of World War I, which, as Tadeusz Kałkowski so beautifully put it, “were carefully cultivated by speculators known at the time as ‘paskarze.’”
This particular piece features a spider with a deliberately long nose and the blunt slogan “TO THE HYDRA-LIKE SPECULATORS, THE HYENAS OF HUMANITY” on the obverse.
Signed with the monogram CA (Cyprian Alkiewicz).
Very rare, as only one medal from this series is commonly found—“In Praise of Speculators” featuring a pig.
White metal, diameter 32.5 mm, weight 13.5 g
