Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 170x90 cm
A painting from the Kraków school depicting three saints. On the left, St. Sebastian is tied to a tree and pierced by arrows; in the center of the composition, St. Florian is depicted as a Roman soldier holding a banner and a water jug; on the left, St. Roch, dressed as a pilgrim, shows his wound with his faithful dog by his side; above them is an angel.
The depiction has a protective and anti-plague character, as it was intended to safeguard the owner, his family, and his possessions against the greatest threats facing the rural community. St. Florian protected against fires in homes and damage to crops, while the “holy physicians”—St. Sebastian and St. Roch—offered protection against illness, epidemics, and injury.
