Half-length portrait of a young man with a black beret and appropriate clothing, in front of a flat landscape that stretches towards the horizon. A white shirt collar leads crescent-shaped in stark contrast to the black clothing around the neck. The head tilted slightly to the side, with a questioning, thoughtful, almost inquiring look. The lips are narrow and closed, and a shaved beard can be seen on the chin. The apparent simplicity of the portrait also corresponds to the landscape, which completely dispenses with distracting elements, shows only a few slender trees and, in a blue aerial perspective, corresponds to the sky, which becomes darker upwards over the bright light of the horizon. The sitter is likely to be a young scholar, which is also indicated by the costume. The influences of the painting tradition of works such as Raphael and Perugino can be clearly seen here. The present picture is related to the portrait of Evangelista Scappi by Francesco Raibolini Francia (around 1450-1517), which is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence
