Christ Gives the Keys to Saint Peter-Jacobus Ignatius de Roore (1686-1747 Antwerp). Christ hands over the keys of heaven (Mt. 16, 19) to the kneeling Peter as his successor and representative on earth. For clarity, Christ points to heaven with his left hand. The apostles stand in two groups around the central scene, reacting to what is happening, moved and thoughtful. The handing over of the keys was also connected with the founding of the church, which gave Simon the nickname "Petr" (rock). While Christ and Peter are dressed in blue, yellow and red, the apostles wear more muted robes. Palm trees, trees and ancient buildings form the background. Because of the subject, it can be assumed that the picture was intended for a Catholic clientele.
