Stanisław Gibiński (1882–1971)—Polish painter. He began his professional career at a very young age, working for the railroad in his hometown of Rzeszów. His artistic talent was noticed by his superiors, who helped him move to Kraków in 1908. He began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and was likely an auditing student in Julian Fałat’s studio. He was a member of the Polish Gymnastics Society “Sokół”; on September 4, 1914, he joined the Polish Legions, and, serving in the 6th Company of the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Brigade under the command of General Józef Haller, participated in the Carpathian Campaign, fighting at Rafajłowa, Mołodeczno, and the Pantyr Pass. After the war ended, he returned to his job on the railroad, while continuing to paint in his spare time. He participated in exhibitions organized by the Kraków Society of Friends of the Fine Arts, as well as in other national exhibitions. Stanisław Gibiński worked primarily in watercolor; the subjects of his paintings included landscapes, rural scenes, hunting scenes, and fishermen at work, as well as nature, forests, and wetlands.
