Zygmunt BADOWSKI

Polish painter. He began studying drawing at the Drawing Class under W. Gerson and J. Kauzik in 1891-93. He supplemented his artistic studies at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studios of W. Łuszczkiewicz and A. Daun. He also studied in Paris, at the Viti School under the direction of R. Collin. He made numerous artistic trips to Vienna, St. Petersburg, Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Venice, Florence and Rome. After completing his studies, he settled permanently in Warsaw. From 1904 to 1914, he collaborated as a cartoonist with Tygodnik Ilustrowany (Illustrated Weekly). He painted scenes with symbolic meaning, portraits, landscapes and genre motifs. In portraits, he always tried to bring out expression, focusing his interest especially on the model's eyes.
