Biography
Painter, graphic artist, educator. Between 1927 and 1931 she studied at the Higher School of Decorative Arts in Warsaw with Tadeusz Noskowski and Zofia Butrymowicz, and between 1936 and 1939 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with Karol Tichy. During World War II, she was a Home Army liaison officer. She lived in Katowice and worked as an art education instructor at the Board of Education and as a teacher of drawing and painting at the Institute of Handwork in Bielsko. Since 1947 she cooperated with the Institute of Industrial Design, creating with Wanda Telakowska an experimental studio for painting on silk at the State Natural Silk Works in Milanowek.
In1950 she settled in Gdansk and began working there in the Department of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture at the Gdansk University of Technology, headed by Władysław Lam. In the late 1940s, at a factory in Milanowek, she experimented with hand-printing on natural silk clothing fabrics, sometimes in combination with batik and painting; she made prints on fabric for public institutions (for example, for the Youth Palace in Katowice), presented, among others, at the First National Exhibition of Interior Architecture and Decorative Arts in 1952. In the first half of the 1950s, she was inspired by nature and folk art; she also presented paintings and drawings at the National Art Exhibitions. In the 1960s, her painting tended toward geometric abstraction while retaining a trace of individual, "hand" work (shifting lines, superimposing motifs, chiaroscuro effects of uneven pigment imprinting).
