Anonymous group of artists critical of current phenomena in contemporary art, of political correctness in the social, political sphere, including within art itself. Humor sometimes hard to swallow ambiguity not allowing to strictly define the options they support, cause controversy in many circles. The main place of activity of The Krasnals is their blogs (Polish and English), where they regularly publish posts, usually with their images and texts commenting on phenomena that bother, fascinate or measure them. Works in the collections of, among others: MOCAK - Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, Silesian Museum in Katowice, Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.
"One of the definitions of art given by Anda Rottenberg is: If art is made by an artist and he shows it in a museum or gallery, it means that he treats it as art. And if the owners or directors of the gallery agree to it, it means they also make this assumption. The director assumes that art is whatever he likes. This is a form of social contract. Just like any other. Moreover, today art does not use the category of beauty, because we have beauty in nature. Of course, such a definition of art is alien to us, especially when our "taste" differs from the leading Polish curators. Is it really not art what the current art establishment will not like? On what basis did a law come into effect that could be described as: "Art that doesn't please the public is controversial, and art that doesn't please the critics is bad art" (The Krasnals).
If such definitions were to concern artists, art history would be poorer by more than one name. Such as Andy Warhol, for example... "I broadcast a message to the masses. My paintings appeal to ordinary people. Intelligent people only appreciated the school of abstract expressionism years later, so I suppose it is difficult for intellectuals to consider what I do as art." (...) This is why we invite everyone to the land forbidden to contemporary art. To the land where serious artists are forbidden to enter. (...)
The business card of the current elite does not convince us, so at this point we are leaning once again in history towards a form of pop art, a message for everyone, for ordinary people, for the masses. (...)"
