Biography
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (with Z. Pronaszko, W. Taranczewski and Cz. Rzepiński). In 1955, he co-founded the Group of Five (later known as the Nowa Huta Group), advocating matter painting. Since 1961, he has been a member of the Cracow Group, which was joined by the Group of Five. From 1974 to 1976 he was a lecturer at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, and since 1982 he has been a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (professor since 1996). He does easel and monumental painting (polychromy of a church in Niemysłowice, Opole region, 1963), drawing, printmaking, enviroments (Shaping, 1972, 1973). He has evolved from structuralism and matter painting to minimal art. In the 1990s, the artist synthesized his artistic achievements, creating metaphorical compositions (Looking at the West, 1994; City, 1996).
