Karol LARISCH (1902-1935)
painter, one of the leading Polish colorists. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with: I. Pieńkowski, J. Pankiewicz, F. Kowarski. He traveled extensively to Dresden, Paris and Vienna. He was associated with the group "Pryzmat", and belonged to ZPAP. Of great importance for his work was the painting of the great masters Rubens, Titian, Veronese?but especially Watteau and French painting of the 18th century. The subjects of his paintings are mainly mythological scenes, motifs of games, picnics, as well as still lifes and portraits. His works are characterized by a lightened color palette, dense painterly matter and rough textures.
