Naglis Karvelis (1961-2014) - born in Marijampolė. He studied at the Vilnius School of Art, and later studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts from 1982-1988. Karvelis worked not only as a painter, but also participated in film art, which is reflected in his works. He stands out in Lithuanian art as a moderniser of watercolour, who was able to turn the traditional technique into a means of creating not only a subtle colouring, but also a conceptual image. His work combines the precision of the realist school, cinematic thinking and the poetics of an emotional state, which makes his works easily recognisable and special. Naglis Karvelis' work is a subtle watercolour dramaturgy that blends human psychology, cinematic composition and masterful use of colour. It is a quiet, introspective, but very powerful art, giving the viewer space for reflection and emotional experience.
