Michal Korta, freelance portrait and documentary photographer. Studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and Germanic philology at the Jagiellonian University. Author of two photography books and winner of the most important portrait awards in Poland (BZ WBK Press Photo 2011, Grand Press Photo 2018). He teaches photography at Nikon Academy and cooperates with universities in Poland and abroad. His photographs have been shown in exhibitions in Poland, Israel, Spain, Italy and the UK.
Since 2006, he has been carrying out original long-term projects, including in Central Asia, Israel and the Balkans. Korta belongs to a new generation of photographers for whom the places photographed are inextricably linked both to history and geopolitical conditions, but also to the emotionality of his subjects. Combining intimate portraits with images of places, he explores spaces far from obvious attractions and first associations. The main subjects of his personal projects are often identity, social groups or chance. His most recent projects increasingly focus on the relationship between man and nature. In 2016, the American website Art Verseed named him one of 5 Eastern European photographers to watch.
