The dedication text, written in the old tsarist Cyrillic script, reads as follows: To Alexander Matveev for his exemplary and diligent service over XXV years, 1892–12/IV/1917, from the officers of the First Cadet Corps. Translation: To Alexander Matveev (Aleksandr Matveev).For exemplary and diligent XXV years of service (For 25 years of exemplary and diligent service). This marked the official quarter-century anniversary of this person’s service. From April 12, 1892, to April 12, 1917. The end date (April 1917) falls after the February Revolution and the overthrow of the tsar, but before the Communists seized power (the Provisional Government was in power at the time).
