Biography
Painter, draftsman, printmaker, and an outstanding artist in the field of artistic photography. He studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Poznań and, as a scholarship recipient, traveled throughout France and Italy. He held his first exhibition in 1928 in Poznań; shortly thereafter, he left for Paris, where he painted, created photomontages, and designed magazine covers. From 1933 onward, he was a member of the “Jednoróg” Artists’ Guild and exhibited extensively in Kraków, Warsaw, and Lviv. After the war, he designed, among other things, the first cover of *Przekrój* and the magazine’s permanent masthead. Brzeski’s photographic works—photomontages and collages—found their way, after the artist’s death in the 1980s, to the world’s greatest museums and major international exhibitions (the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris).
