MARCOUSSIS, Louis (1878–1941) — *Planches de Salut* [frontispiece].
Etching, size 19.9 x 23.6 on a sheet measuring 29.6 x 33 cm (inside the passe-partout). Frontispiece plate for the limited-edition, bibliophile portfolio “Planches de Salut,” published in Paris in 1931 by Jeanne Bucher in an edition of 71 pieces. It contained 10 prints, each dedicated to the memory of one of the artist’s favorite writers (including Baudelaire, Dostoevsky, Rimbaud, Apollinaire, Shakespeare, and Stanisław Przybyszewski). The work is unsigned. In the lower left margin, there is a pencil-written number: 45/71. The etching is mounted in a wooden frame with a deep mat. Very good condition.
L. Marcoussis (Markus) (1878–1941)—Polish painter and printmaker, an outstanding representative of Cubism, one of the leading and earliest members of the École de Paris to settle in Paris (from 1903), and a friend of P. Picasso, J. Gris, M. Jacob, and F. Léger.
