Joseph Brandt (1841-1915), Male nude
Pencil on paper, 30.5 x 22.5 cm / 18 x 14 cm (in light passe partout).
Signed with monogram, dated 1863, inscribed "Munich "* in lower left corner.
On the reverse, second drawing, also signed with monogram, dated, described "Munich" (?).
* Joseph Brandt went to study in Munich in 1862, where he initially studied in the studio of Alexander Strähuber. Later he took up studies in Karl Piloty's composition class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (he enrolled in the Antikenklasse in mid-February 1863). The work - clearly academic, being a study of a model - dates from this period.
