Biography
Printmaker, painter, educator. He studied at the Faculty of Painting and Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 1962 to 1968. Initially, he studied painting in Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa’s studio, and later printmaking. He received his diploma in 1968 from the Copperplate Engraving Studio under Professor Mieczysław Wejman. He has been a faculty member at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts since 1968. He was awarded the title of professor in 1994. In 1984–85, he worked as a visiting professor in the U.S., and in 1990 in Canada. He taught printmaking at art schools and universities, including in Antwerp, Maastricht, Montreal, Storrs (Connecticut, U.S.), Urbino. He is the recipient of, among other awards, the Prize Endowed by the 8th National Graphic Arts Exhibition in Warsaw in 1978; First Prize for Best Print of the Month in Kraków in 1979; honorable mentions in the competition organized by the Polish Society of Book Publishers in 2004; an individual award from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2005; the “Golden Frame” Award from the Kraków Regional Board of the Association of Polish Visual Artists in 2011. He was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2013).
