The legend of the presented denarius begins on the obverse, but also continues on the reverse. At the beginning of his reign, Antoninus refers to the trio nomine of his adoptive father, Hadrian. This denarius was minted after the consecration of Hadrian, for whom Antoninus was awarded the title Pontifex Maximus.
