FRYDERYK AUGUST Proclamation. Manuscript. Leipzig 1809.
Format:22x35cm. Traces of card folding. Watermark.
Age copy with the following contents: "Austrya has declared war on the Supreme Emperor of the French, King of Italy, under the vain pretense of shielding herself from invasion. The army entered the Duchy of Warsaw. The commander of the iey has scattered an announcement insulting Our Great Ally, Your Resurrectionist, seeking to undermine your loyalty, and threatening you with a new yoke. But vain will be this abhorrent intention.
Poles! The great Napolen has returned Us to the rights rightfully acquired by the universal wishes of the Nation. From Him you have taken everything: your being, Constitution and rights. Never will this mighty Monarch dispense with his work, which, having fondly formed it, he has contracted with his powerful ally.
Take up arms, therefore, to revenge the onslaught of your Resurrector, the King who loves you and your liberties. Rush to the defense of your habitations. Already the invincible Bohatyr at the head of his armies is cooking new triumphs for them, and avenging your invasion. Soon the invading armies will fall. The effect of your courage and sacrifice will become infallible, your fame will become immortal, and your prosperity all the more fixed.
in Leipzig on April 25, 1809. signed FRYDERYK AUGUST BY THE KING Minister Secretary of State Stanislaw Breza."
