Stanislaw Cholewa - was born in 1973 in Bochnia. He is a graduate of the High School of Fine Arts in Nowy Wisnicz. He studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the serigraphy studio of Prof. Wojciech Krzywobłocki and at the Faculty of Art of the Pedagogical Academy in Cracow. He received his diploma in the linocut studio of assistant professor Jan Bujnowski at the Pedagogical Academy in 2001. He received his doctoral degree in 2009 from the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He is currently a teaching fellow at the Pedagogical University in the Institute of Graphic Arts and Design. Member of the Cracow Branch of the Association of Polish Artists. Author of seven solo exhibitions and participant in many group exhibitions at home and abroad.
He deals with printmaking, drawing and painting. He mostly creates cycles, of which he has completed so far: Events, Situations, Here and Elsewhere, Machines. In the first three cycles, the leitmotif of his work is a man entangled in everyday life, interpreted in a grotesque way with a bit of deliberate deformation. In the series Machines, he experimentally uses a perishable paper matrix based on a xerox print, combining it with classical methods of reproducing a graphic image. His first prints were characterized by their documentary and descriptive nature. Over time, the artist makes interventions in the manner and form of graphic imaging. Large-format graphics using color are created. The monumental machines-objects, and sometimes their fragments, are deprived of unnecessary surroundings. Placed in an imaginary space, they expose peculiar forms, resulting from the function of their utility.
