Andrzej Kielar is a graduate of the State Music School. He works professionally as a music teacher for children and people with disabilities. His paintings fall within the surrealist and magical realism movements; he paints primarily with acrylics on canvas. Despite the fantastical worlds and themes found in his paintings, most of them are stories about people, about the search for meaning and identity. Andrzej Kielar: “Surrealism and magical realism give me the freedom to set aside the ‘correctness’ of this world, its ‘mathematics,’ and to bend its rules; they allow me to subtly convey the thoughts I wish to express without imposing an unambiguous message on the viewer. Yes, there are images with obvious content, but a subject suspended within the space of this genre does not limit the viewer to what they might perceive at first glance... I believe in the viewer’s intelligence and imagination. I think that I am not destroying, but rather inviting them into my warped world...”
