A photograph by Anna Brzezińska-Skarżyńska depicting Czesław Miłosz (1911–2004) —a poet, essayist, and translator, winner of the 1980 Nobel Prize in Literature—during a meeting surrounded by an audience. Seated next to Miłosz is Janina Jankowska (b. 1939), a journalist and radio reporter, a longtime contributor to Polish Radio, who later became involved with the democratic opposition and Radio “Solidarność.” The photographer, Anna Brzezińska-Skarżyńska (b. 1958), a photographer and photojournalist, has been documenting social, political, and cultural life in Poland since the early 1980s.
