A historical study analyzing the military formations of the Kościuszko Uprising (1794), including the famous scythemen and regular soldiers fighting under the command of Tadeusz Kościuszko.
The publication of this book in Kraków in 1915—that is, during World War I—had a profound patriotic and propaganda dimension. The Supreme National Committee (N.K.N.), which financed the publication, served as the political backbone for Józef Piłsudski’s Polish Legions. Recalling the bravery and organization of the former Kościuszko soldiers was intended to stir the national spirit and encourage Poles to join the ranks of the newly forming Polish Army fighting for independence.
Publisher: Central Publishing Office of the N.K.N. (Supreme National Committee).
Author: Wacław Tokarz (a distinguished Polish military historian, participant in the January Uprising, and professor).
45 pages, illustrations.
