A novel set in New Delhi, India, at the Hungarian embassy, where the protagonist, Istvan Terey, works as a cultural attaché. The political subplot provides the backdrop for events in Budapest in 1956, when the Hungarians’ anti-communist uprising was brutally suppressed by Soviet troops. The author, W. Żukrowski, is a Polish novelist, poet, reporter, essayist, literary critic, screenwriter, member of the Sejm of the Polish People’s Republic, and a “Builder of People’s Poland.”
