Monika Borowicz, Daughter,
watercolor on paper, 70 x 50 cm, signed
Born in 1976 in Krakow, Poland, the artist has been involved in drawing and painting from the beginning. Her work grows out of years of observation of the city, light and architecture, as well as sensitivity to the cultural context of place. In the 1990s, she co-founded the Krakow art community, founding the "Retro" Author's Gallery and an Art Group of the same nature, focused on the interpretation of Krakow's heritage.
At the same time, she developed her interest in film, which influenced the narrative and compositional thinking in her paintings. The following years saw the creation of cycles inspired by the city - from drawn flashbacks to watercolor studies of light and fleeting moments.
Since 2004, an important stage of her work has been stays in Italy, where contact with the heritage of Tuscany deepened her reflection on form and space. After 2010, during her stay in Norway, the artist turned to figuration and themes of inner emotional states. Paintings of female figures were then created, being a record of experiences, tensions and internal processes.
Currently, the artist presents her works in exhibitions and art galleries and auctions in Poland and abroad, consistently developing a painterly narrative focused on emotion, light and the female condition.
