Master of landscape. Author of countless oil paintings, gouaches, tempera and watercolors inspired primarily by the Polish landscape. Over the years of her work, she has become a classic of a certain attitude characteristic of Polish post-war painting: close to post-impressionism, transposed to our artistic ground by the colorists, while at the same time operating with gesture, sign and matter similar to Tasist abstraction. Danuta Makowska's paintings present a simplified landscape with synthesizing rather than narrative tendencies. Their domain is the briefness, not to say the conciseness of the sign, given in the colorfully sophisticated form of color patches, "asparagus postcybis" gestures and circular brush touches. Although Danuta Makowska often avoids the specific location of her landscapes, titling them: "Water," "Fields." "Mountains", "Grasses", "Winter", she also paints concretized landscapes: "Tatra Mountains", "Masurian Landscape" or "Vistula. Wyszogród." Danuta Makowska was born in 1930 in Zabludow. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics. She completed her diploma in 1955 in the studio of Tadeusz Kulisiewicz. Until 1974 she worked at the Painting Department, among others, cooperated with Tadeusz Dominik. Since 1975, she led the painting studio at the Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art. In 1996, she became a full professor. She was a scholarship holder of the Danish government. She has many exhibitions, awards and national decorations to her credit.
