Marek Firek graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology (diploma 1986), then from the Faculty of Industrial Forms at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (diploma 1989). Since 1988 he has been working in the Independent Department of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. In 1998, he obtained a first degree qualification (doctorate) at his alma mater, the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1990, he has had over a dozen solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, both of painting and design - both fields he works in parallel. In 1995, he was a co-founder of the painting group Ładnie (alongside Rafał Bujnowski, Marcin Maciejowski, Wilhelm Sasnal and the ASP model, original and artist Józef Tomczyk "Kurosawa", who accompanied them). He exhibited with them until 2001. In painting, he represents a way of imagery characteristic of the members of the group, which has much in common with comics (the use of inscriptions and slogans), focusing on single motifs (figures, objects, gestures, scenes) situated on neutral backgrounds. As a designer of ceramic functional forms, he has won many awards at the International Competition of Artistic and Applied Ceramics in Mino, Japan (1992-1998) and at other reviews of this field of art. The artist lives in Cracow.
