Courland, Frederick and Wilhelm Kettler, 1610 Schilling, Mitau – a rarity
A coin of great typological interest. A schilling of the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia bearing the title of Sigismund III Vasa, King of Poland.
A variant with the date 6 – I0 separated by an arrow (the mint mark of Hans Stippl—administrator of the Mitava mint) in the border on the reverse.
Condition: 3+
Minor flaws in the blank and metal resulting in localized under-strikes, but a nicely preserved piece for this type. A very rare coin and extremely difficult to find on the collectors’ market. An attractive piece to complete a collection.
