Roman Opaliński was born in Gródek near Lviv; he graduated from the Department of Artistic Glass at the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (now the Lviv National Academy of Arts). He paints and also creates works in the fields of printmaking and artistic blacksmithing. He participates in numerous Ukrainian and international exhibitions, including the “Autumn Salons” and “Art of the Free World” exhibitions in Lviv, “Art as an Ambassador of Freedom and Democracy” in Kyiv, international open-air workshops in Poland, and group exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Slovakia.
The artist himself believes that the most noticeable influences on his work have been the Old Russian art of icon painting, Ukrainian folk art, and the works of Picasso, Malevich, and the French Impressionists. His works are held in private collections in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Israel.
