Biography
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In the 1920s, thanks to a two-year scholarship, he lived in Paris, where he exhibited his works at the Salon d’Automne (in 1925, 1927, and 1928). After the war, he settled in Wrocław, where he taught at the State Higher School of Fine Arts. In 1962, he founded the Wrocław Group. In his paintings, inspired by the themes of Polish battle scenes, he depicted equestrian portraits, races, hunts, and subjects reminiscent of the works of Piotr Michałowski and the Kossak brothers. After the war, he devoted a large part of his work to views of Wrocław. From the late 1950s onward, the artist’s painting evolved toward surreal depictions of the world as he envisioned it. He also painted subtle nudes and still lifes.
