A young woman with her hair pulled back behind the nape of her neck is portrayed half-length, clad in a blouse, open at the breast. Her right arm is raised and bent before her to suggest an extreme gesture of defense.
The sculpture under consideration effectively summarizes the salient features of the Theatine sculptor's production.
Although he often brilliantly measured himself with life-size figures, it is undoubtedly in smaller sculptures, such as the one under consideration, that the artist best expressed his artistic vision. Other copies of this bust exist in both terracotta and bronze. The earliest known realization dates back to 1894 and is now preserved at the Costantino Barbella Art Museum in Chieti.
