Ty2/Ty42 – a German Class 52 freight steam locomotive, mass-produced between 1942 and 1945. After the war, it was widely used in Poland due to severe shortages of rolling stock. In 1950, the T2D “Śląsk” locomotive was developed—a simpler, more economical version of the German O/S type, adapted for shunting operations on industrial sidings. Produced at Fablok until 1963 (a total of 406 pieces), it was used mainly in Upper Silesia. The last pieces were still in service in the 1990s, including at the “Porąbka-Klimontów” mine. The “Śląski” locomotives played an important role in heavy industry, ensuring efficient shunting operations where the large PKP steam locomotives were too expensive and unwieldy.
