Boxwood sundial, circular in shape, divided into three separate sections and complete with compass for orientation and night clock. In the middle section is the Latin inscription sic nullum vobis tempus abibit iners (Ovid) meaning 'so for you time will not pass idle'. This ingenious system spread in the 1600s and 1700s through the production of many wooden or ivory specimens in Germany and especially in Nuremberg.

Item condition grading: **** good (with signs of wear consistent with dating).
