[Navy] O.R.P. Griffin - 1939. Photograph measuring 9 x 14 cm. Photograph described in pen on the reverse.
ORP Gryf - Polish mine-layer of the interwar period, built in 1934-1938 in France, the largest combat ship of the Second Polish Navy. During its short service it was used, among other things, as a training ship. After German aggression on September 1, 1939, it took part in an unsuccessful attempt to lay a minefield in the Gulf of Gdansk (Plan Rurka), nullified as a result of an air and sea battle with Luftwaffe bombers. Permanently moored in the port of Hel, on the morning of September 3 she participated in an artillery duel with German destroyers. On the same day it was bombed and sunk by German aviation.
