Barbara Rej (born 1988) - a graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2016. She received a master's degree for her thesis entitled. "From my breast it broke out" under the direction of Prof. Jaroslaw Modzelewski. Winner of the 2016 ENTRY Initiative Award, which culminated in a solo exhibition entitled. "Heart" at the Promotional Gallery in Warsaw in 2018. She participated in the exhibition "Communication with All That Is" at the Stefan Gierowski Foundation in Warsaw in 2018. In her works, the artist transforms well-known motifs from iconography or literature using bold, colorful and humorous aesthetics. Exhibited: Youth Painting Review PROMOCJE, Legnica, 2016; "Migrations a principle of balance" Gallery of Contemporary Art Elektrownia, 2018 The main character of the triptych is a naive heart rushing blindly in search of happiness. Deaf to the voice of reason, resistant to the influence of prevailing trends, running only in the direction it has set for itself. A lively, pulsating heart, whose greatest fear is stagnation and confinement to the notches of past achievements. Guided by the heart's need, I intentionally created images as naive as the heart itself in an attempt to convey the emotions that accompany exploration, development and fulfillment. The work is built from several elements that correspond with each other in different ways, the viewer is drawn into a kind of game. His task is to grasp the interrelationships and build his own interpretation or story. When creating paintings, I consider an emotional message to be my primary goal. I want to avoid a situation in which the viewer perceives the work superficially and focuses only on the visual side of the object. This theme is addressed in the work Transfer in Time and Space. Its premise is to indicate the problem of the progressive disappearance in the viewer's consciousness of the interpretative key that artists once used in biblical and hagiographic representations, leading to a shallow reception of works with a rich narrative, belonging primarily to ancient art. Also important for the work is that the viewer viewing this type of work is satisfied with the visual side of the object, without having to explore its content. The key element of the installation is a painting inspired by altarpiece Gothic painting. It is maintained in a "gothic-pop" style. Common to Gothic are the multi-plane composition, vivid colors, simultanism (manifested in the depiction of the same figure at different times), deformation of silhouettes, symbolism). Despite the fact that the painting has a lot of content, quotations from literature and art, and rich symbolism, which enable the viewer to activate association mechanisms and leave a wide room for interpretation, reflection on the content appears only after being swayed by the multitude of inflatable kitsch or does not occur at all. The viewer perceives the work as a collection of colorful elements, accepts or rejects it according to his aesthetic preferences. The basic content of Transfer's work in time and space is the search for and pursuit of fulfillment, which can be achieved in the sphere of creativity and emotional and erotic love.
