One of a rare series of numismatic items from the period before Poland regained its independence, which were produced in Wincenty Stefan Wiśniewski’s workshop in Warsaw. These were medals and badges of a patriotic nature.
This particular piece is dedicated to Poland’s two capitals—the historical one (Kraków) and the current one (Warsaw).
It may have been connected to the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Tadeusz Kościuszko’s death, or to the burgeoning hopes for Poland’s regaining of independence.
Bronze, dimensions 31.5 x 53.5 mm, weight 20 g.
