Biography
Set designer, painter and pedagogue. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1959) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (1962). Creator of about 160 stage designs in opera and drama theaters. He made his debut as a stage designer at the Juliusz Słowacki Theater in Cracow with the artwork for Słowacki's drama "Horsztyński" (1959). In 1962 he began working with the Warsaw Grand Theater with the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring." At the same theater and later that year, he produced set designs for the plays: Debussy's "Prodigal Son," Honegger's "Judith," Nono's "Red Coat" and de Falla's "Triangle Hat." In 1966 he was appointed chief stage designer of the Grand Theater in Warsaw, a position he held until 2005, when he retired. In addition to many productions on the stage of the Grand Theater and other Polish theaters - he was the author of stage designs in renowned theaters. He was also successfully involved in theater directing (e.g., Krzysztof Penderecki's "Passion" - Grand Theater, Warsaw 1979, or Karol Szymanowski's "King Roger" - Grand Theater, Warsaw 1983).
