Richard Prauss joined the army as a volunteer during the Bolshevik War. He served in the 4th infantry regiment in Kielce. He was a student of the Rej Gymnasium in Kielce. He took up painting studies at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1924. He graduated in 1930 in the studios of M. Kotarbiński and T. Pruszkowski. At the same time he studied graphic arts with W. Skoczylas and K. Bartłomiejczyk. All his life associated with Kielce, he participated in the work of the Świętokrzyskie Society of Art Lovers. He painted mainly landscapes with architectural elements, views of cities, battle scenes, genre scenes. He also cultivated book illustration. He was involved in teaching after the war. Many of his works are in the collection of the National Museum in Kielce. Also a painter was his twin brother, Stanislaw, who died in 1967.
